Computer Crash

New Computer in Commie Rooms

A friend of mine just donated a computer to Tangram. It's better than the one we currently have in the communal rooms (on which I'm writing this), so if anyone knows how to plug the new one in and network it the same as this one then please volunteer.

Now that we're out from under supervision, I'm researching potential grant-givers who might do things like buy us a film projector to show films in the communal rooms.

Does anyone else have ideas for how we could make use of small grants, maybe to build the social side of Tangram or to improve shared spaces? I'm spending a couple of hours a week in the office at the moment, so I'd be up for doing applications if we have some good ideas.

Artimus has been helping me this morning, and suggests a tunafish party to help get other local cats involved in their community. He would also like a bigger sofa in the communal rooms as he finds that he can't stretch out enough on the ones we have. Does anyone have any better ideas?

Celebrating Harehills Festival

Celebrating Harehills happened on Vicars Terrace this year on what must have been the hottest day of the year. I took some photos but they're on film and I haven't developed them yet - does anyone have any digital ones I could put up here?

Book Club

A new Tangram Book Club will begin on 17th May, meeting at 7:30 at Marie Carroll's house.

The first book we're going to read is "What Is the What?" by Dave Eggers - some info here from the publishers, including their Frequently Asked Questions about the book.

Residents Network Event, Saturday 26th April at Space@Hillcrest Primary School 1-4pm

Subject: The Residents "Way Forward Event" Saturday 26th April at Space@Hillcrest Primary School 1-4pm

Dear all,

We’ve been working hard to pull the launch event together. We were unable to book the venues suggested at the planning meeting, however, we’ve managed to book Space@Hillcrest Primary School which is a fantastic venue! We have 2 large hall areas and there’s a gallery showing local artists work.

I’ve attached a PDF of the poster for the day and will be sending it by post to all members (once they come back from the printers). We’ve managed to book a wide range of organisations for the day including: The Neighbourhood Policing Team, ENE Homes, Connect Housing, IMPaCT, Archway, The Urban Biz and many more. We hope the event will be a chance for residents to find out what’s already going on in the area and future plans.

Of course one of the aims of the day is to find out what direction our members would like the Residents Network to head in and what our priorities should be for the future and of course recruiting more members in to the network.

Please email or phone us if you’re able to attend or help on the day – We’re hoping to have a large turn out so more pairs of hands would be fantastic!

Kind regards

Craig & Laura

New Website

Hi everyone!

Thought this might be a good way for us to share things. This site is set up as a blog, like the one we've been using on my allotment site which is called Toll Bar. The idea is that anyone can post anything, comment, add things or change the site around. Have a look at the Toll Bar site for some general ideas - we've used ours so far for recording correspondence, sharing recipes, discussing weeds and sharing links to other local organisations.

This is NOT a substitute for meeting - bear in mind that not everyone has internet access - but it is a place to share things and maybe have some fun.

Any problems at all just e-mail Alice (I'll do basic admin here until others offer to help).

Enjoy!

Alice x
